District Updates
Calendar changes announced for 2025-26 school year

Dearborn Public Schools is updating its calendar for 2026 – adding an extra day off around both Eid celebrations and pushing back the last day of school.
Another day off was added in March and in May. Schools will now be closed March 18 through 20, 2026. Spring break from March 30 to April 3, 2026 did not change. In May, schools will now be closed May 25 to May 28, 2026.
As a result of those changes, the last day of school for 2026 was pushed back to June 11.
State Board of Education president visits Dearborn Schools

Dr. Pamela Pugh, President of the Michigan State Board of Education, visited Dearborn Public Schools on Monday, June 2, 2025 to learn more about the district’s special education programs.
Earlier this spring, Mike Esseily, the district’s Executive Director of Special Populations, and some teachers and students presented to the State Board of Education. The presentation about the district’s special education program highlighted Dearborn Public Schools co-teaching model. In co-taught classrooms, a grade level or subject area teacher partners with a special education teacher to instruct both general education and special education students. All students benefit from the multi-tiered instruction.

Twelve Dearborn Public Schools placed in the top 100.
Enrollment for free preschool now open

Dearborn Public Schools’ Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) is accepting applications for the 2025-26 school year.
Dearborn Public Schools is strongly encouraging all families who live in the district and have a child the right age to apply for the free preschool program. State officials are working to expand GSRP to all families over the next few years, which means more flexibility for schools when admitting students. Most district families now qualify.

Voices of Dearborn Schools

Stronger Together: Families, Schools, Community
“I’ve never experienced a school with such a tight-knit community. Here, everyone knows everyone—whether it’s through family, friends, or neighbors. I’ll be walking down the hall and hear someone mention their cousin or neighbor in another classroom. That sense of connection is truly special. Sometimes, I even know the families before I meet their children. The strong community bonds are, without a doubt, the best part of this job.”

Making a Difference, One Student at a Time
“The most rewarding part of being a teacher is knowing I’ve made a difference in a child’s life. I once worked with a young girl who had just arrived in the U.S. and was struggling with reading. By building her confidence and supporting her growth throughout the year, she not only reached grade level but also passed the state assessment. Moments like that remind me why I do this work. What truly sets Dearborn Public Schools apart is not just the diversity, but the dedication of our educators. We work hard to ensure every child succeeds, no matter their background.”

A Place to Belong,
A Place to Grow
“The Dearborn Public Schools community is truly family. I see it in the friendships I’ve made with my colleagues—grademates, principals, assistant principals—who are more than coworkers, they’re my friends. We’ve been through so much together. I love being here at Maples. It’s also in the kids who come back to visit, and in seeing where they are now—parents, authors, pharmacists. That’s what success looks like. The most rewarding part of my job is knowing school is a fun, safe place for them to be. I remember how I felt in my 4th grade class at McDonald School—how much I loved being there. The way my teacher made me feel stuck with me, and I want to pass that on to every student I teach.”

From Day One: Fostering a Sense of Belonging
“One of the things I cherish most about our school community is the warm, welcoming atmosphere that makes everyone feel like part of the family from day one. This welcoming environment begins with our administration and leadership team. A family atmosphere is created and nurtured regularly, and support is given whenever and wherever it is needed without strings. Creating a positive culture within the building benefits the staff and most importantly, the students.”
