With the 2026 transformational bond, 24 schools would have secure vestibules added in the first few years.

A secure vestibule requires visitors during the school day to be buzzed in repeatedly before they gain access to the building. This greatly increases safety for students and staff. All visitors would be forced to enter through the office and talk to school staff before they could gain entrance to the main part of the school.

For many schools, adding a secure vestibule means remodeling to move the office next to the main entrance.

How it works

  1. A visitor approaches the main entrance from outside the building and is buzzed in to enter the vestibule of the building.
  2. From the vestibule, a visitor would need to be buzzed in a second time to be allowed into the office.
  3. In the office, staff would talk to the visitor to see why they are at the school and if they should be allowed into the building. Parents and others just dropping items off could leave those in the office.
  4. If the person does need to proceed into the school, office staff would then buzz them into the main part of the building.
