Understanding your child’s assessments is a crucial part of supporting their academic journey. Here, you will find brief overviews of the various state and district-level tests administered in Dearborn Public Schools. Click on any assessment title to visit the official Michigan Department of Education (MDE) or testing partner website, where you can access parent guides, practice materials, and detailed testing information.

M-STEP

The Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress (M-STEP) is given to students in grades 3-8 and 11 to measure their knowledge in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies based on state standards.

PSAT, SAT & MME

This suite of assessments measures college and career readiness over time. It includes the PSAT 8/9 (for 8th and 9th graders), the PSAT 10 (for 10th graders), and the Michigan Merit Examination (MME), which features the SAT with Essay for all 11th graders

WIDA Assessments

A suite of English language proficiency assessments administered to our English/Multilingual Learners (K-12). These tests monitor a student’s development in listening, reading, speaking, and writing.

i-Ready Diagnostic

An adaptive, district-level benchmark assessment in reading and math. It helps our educators pinpoint student learning needs, personalize instruction, and closely track academic growth throughout the school year.

MI-Access

Michigan’s alternate assessment system, specifically designed for students when their Individualized Education Program (IEP) team determines that taking the general M-STEP assessment is not appropriate.

WIDA Alternate ACCESS

An individually administered paper-and-pencil test designed specifically for English Learners (ELs) who have the most significant cognitive disabilities. It monitors their language development in listening, reading, speaking, and writing.

WIN Work Readiness Assessment

Newly introduced as part of the Michigan Merit Exam (MME), this assessment measures essential employability and job skills for 11th graders. It evaluates proficiency in Work Ready Math, Work Ready Reading, and Work Ready Data to ensure students are fully prepared for the modern workforce.
