GEAR-D: GED Education and Resources Dearborn

What is GEAR-D?

GED Education AND Resources Dearborn (GEAR-D) is a FREE 15 week program wherein students will attain a GED and stackable and marketable credentials for immediate entry into Health occupations.  This program is a partnership between Dearborn Public Schools Adult Education, the Michael Berry Career Center and Michigan Works!.

The GEAR-D students would be dually enrolled into a GED or High School Equivalency (HSE) program while working directly with a certified teacher in a hands-on career and technical education setting in Health programs.

GED and GEAR-D Schedules

Students have the option of daytime GED classes that run Monday through Friday for 2 hours each day.  We have 2 different levels of daytime GED classes, one from 10:30am-12:30pm and from 1pm-3pm.  Each student is placed in their respective class based on the their level of Reading, Writing, and Math.  Also we have evening GED classes that run Tuesdays and Thursdays for 3 hours each (6pm-9pm).

The Fall 2021 GEAR-D schedule is as follows:

  • Allied Health I – Mondays and Wednsdays from 3:30pm – 5:30pm
  • Allied Health II – Mondays and Wednsdays from 5:45 – 7:45pm

In order to qualify for the GEAR-D program, students must be in the Level 4 or higher GED classes.  Each student is tested – using a state approved test- and placed in their ESL or pre-GED classes accordingly.

Our GED and ESL teachers are some of the best in the industry.  Their level of dedication and commitment to our students’ success is unparalleled.  They are continuously checking in with students to ensure their performance and attendance meets the program expectations.

Please be sure to check out our teachers profiles with a synopsis about their experience here at Adult Ed.
