Free lunch and breakfast
The Dearborn Public Schools serves nutritious meals and milk every full school day. The district now offers free lunch to all of its kindergarten to 12th grade students, regardless of family income. In 2018, the district learned it was eligible to to offer free meals based on criteria in the Community Eligibility Program under the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s school meals program.
Students are also be able to get free breakfasts in the schools that offer that service. Contact your school for breakfast times.
While students will not need money to buy meals, most schools will continue to offer individual items for sale in their cafeteria such as milk or snacks. Children would need money in hand or in their student account to buy those items. Money can be send via cash or check with your child to school. To check their account balance, log into your ParentConnect account.
Please follow this link for the current school lunch menus.
The district may still ask some families to fill out information about household income, although on a different form. This information is needed for schools to be eligible for other programs, including federal Title 1 funding. Dearborn Schools will also have to occasionally survey selected families to see if the district still qualifies for CEP.
CEP is not available to preschool students, so it will not be offered at Cotter School. (Students enrolled in the GSRP program at Cotter can qualify for free or reduced lunch prices under other federal programs.)
If a doctor has determined that your child has a disability and the disability would prevent the child from eating the regular school meal, the school will make any substitutions prescribed by a doctor at no extra charge. For further information, please call your child’s school. The doctor’s statement, including prescribed diet and/or substitutions, must be submitted to the food service department at your school.
