{"id":1641,"date":"2018-02-14T12:09:12","date_gmt":"2018-02-14T17:09:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/schoolimprovement.dearbornschools.org\/?p=1641"},"modified":"2018-02-14T12:11:40","modified_gmt":"2018-02-14T17:11:40","slug":"michigan-department-of-education-to-introduce-new-school-rating-system-index","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dearbornschools.org\/schoolimprovementblog\/2018\/02\/14\/michigan-department-of-education-to-introduce-new-school-rating-system-index\/","title":{"rendered":"Michigan Department of Education to introduce new school-rating system (Index)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Greetings Everyone,<\/p>\n<p>Detroit Free Press published an article on the release of the new rating system.<\/p>\n<p>See highlights belows:<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable-p-1 p-text\">The Michigan Department of Education is set to issue a new way of rating schools soon \u2014 one that gives them credit for student proficiency and improvement, as well as other factors that have nothing to do with test performance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable-p-2 p-text\">State Superintendent Brian Whiston said the new system, called an index, will be released to schools in about a week and will be public in about a month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p-text\">Schools will receive an index score that will range from 0 to 100, with 100 being the highest. Those with an index score of below 30 will be targeted for improvement, Whiston said during a break in Tuesday&#8217;s meeting of the State Board of Education.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p-text\">Here&#8217;s how the index score will be determined:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>34% based on improvement on state exams<\/li>\n<li>29% based on the number of students proficient on state exams<\/li>\n<li>14% on other factors such as availability of art, music, library and physical education programs<\/li>\n<li>10% based on graduation rates<\/li>\n<li>10% based on the proficiency of English language learners on a state exam<\/li>\n<li>3% based on how many students are tested<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>See full article here:\u00a0<a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/r.smartbrief.com\/resp\/jNgvCfbwnsqaujAZFhVE\">https:\/\/r.smartbrief.com\/resp\/jNgvCfbwnsqaujAZFhVE<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Greetings Everyone, Detroit Free Press published an article on the release of the new rating system.
