Dear Parents and Community Members:
We are pleased to present you with the Annual Education Report (AER) which provides key information on the 2010-11 educational progress for the Henry Ford Early College. The AER addresses the complex reporting information required by federal and state laws. The school’s report contains information about student assessment, Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) and teacher quality. If you have any questions about the AER, please contact Mr. Simon for assistance.
The AER is available for you to review electronically by visiting the following web site http://dearbornschools.org/downloads/cat_view/120-annual-education-reports
You can also obtain a paper copy from the office.
For 2010-2011, Henry Ford Early College did make Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) because we did attain target achievement goals in English language arts and in mathematics. This is the second year of testing for Henry Ford Early College. Several interventions have been implemented to raise student achievement. They include a summer program focusing on math, reading, and writing, and after school tutoring and classes in reading and math. Parents can assist their child by allowing their children to attend the after school programs and providing them with a structured time and place to study at home.
Henry Ford Early College will begin its fifth year this fall. The school was established through a partnership with the Dearborn Public Schools, Henry Ford Community College, and Henry Ford Health System. Students of Henry Ford Early College are exposed to a focused curriculum which meets all of the State of Michigan mandated requirements of high school graduation as well as all Henry Ford Community College Associate Degree requirements. The students have varied opportunities to participate in clinical experiences at Henry Ford Health System. As they progress through the five year program, students concentrate their coursework toward being certified in one of the following health-related fields: Respiratory Therapist, Surgical Technologist, Physical Therapist Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, Ophthalmic Technician, Biotechnology, Medical Practice-Clinical Management, Medical Practice-Facility Business Management, Pre-Nursing, Paramedic, Clinical Technician Dialysis or Radiographer. Students may also receive an Associate of Science degree.
Students enter the Henry Ford Early College in the ninth grade. Thirty students are recruited from the district and twenty from the rest of Wayne County. The students complete an application process if they are interested in the health career fields. Students are selected based on a lottery.
The school improvement plan includes goals to increase student achievement in reading, writing, and math. Several interventions have been implemented to support the goals.
Copies of district curriculum are available through the Department of Instructional Services http://dearbornschools.org/departments/instructional-services .
We look forward to working in partnership with parents, students and staff to ensure the success of all students at the Henry Ford Early College.
Sincerely,
Larry Simon
Principal, Henry Ford Early College
