Please explain what happens if a student moves during the year.
1. If the parent (or adult student) moves out of our district attendance area, they must enroll in the new school district. The only exception to this in Dearborn is for students who are high school seniors.

2. If the parent moves within our district boundaries but to another school attendance area, Board Policy allows them to finish the current semester at the current school. If the move occurs during the first semester and the parent would like to have the student remain for the rest of the year, the parent must make the request in writing and the principal must approve the request. If the principal does not approve the request, the student is transferred to the school servicing the parent's new residence.

4. If the parent would like the student to remain beyond the current school year, the normal school of choice procedures must be followed.

Finally, please remember that it is the parent's address that determines residency. Also, please remember that when parents maintain separate residences, either parent's residence may be used, regardless of where the child resides.
