Assessment, ELL, & Compensatory Education

The Office of Assessment, English Language Learners, and Compensatory Education is part of the Department of Instructional Services. Its mission is to narrow the achievement gap by providing systemic professional development and sustaining local leadership to help ensure that all learners achieve academically across content areas. Research-based practices are implemented to ensure that English language learners, economically disadvantaged and immigrant students attain English language proficiency and content mastery successfully.

Additionally, the office coordinates the development and administration of district and state assessments and provides teachers and administrators with the necessary support and professional development about test administration and interpretation. Ongoing assistance is provided to examine student assessment results in order to improve students' academic achievement and determine effectiveness of programs and interventions.

The office also assists in building the nation's capacity in critical foreign languages by coordinating and developing Dearborn's Arabic as a foreign language program which focuses on developing a viable curriculum, assessments, integration of technology, cultural competence, and accelerating students' foreign language proficiency.

The Office of Assessment, ELL, and Compensatory Education administers programs and activities under Title I and Title III of No Child Left Behind (NCLB). As you navigate our website, you will find descriptive information about services, special programs, initiatives, activities, and resources available to educators, parents and students.
