Healthy, free and reduced priced, breakfast and lunch meals ensure that almost 14,000 of the 19,100 Dearborn Public Schools students receive healthy meals during the week. However, many of these children will go hungry during the weekend unless they are part of the Blessings in a Backpack program. Blessings in a Backpack provides children with a backpack stuffed with a weekend full of healthy, nutritious food. The students return the empty backpack on Monday so they can be refilled for the next weekend.
Blessing in a Backpack is holding a “Non-Blue Box” Mac and Cheese Dinner Fundraiser on Wednesday, January 23, 2013, from 4:00-7:00 pm, at Park Place, 23400 Park Street, just west of Outer Drive and south of Michigan Avenue. There is a minimum donation of $10 per person requested and there will be opportunities to sponsor a child for a complete school year. Blessing in a Backpack is a 501(c) (3) organization.
