Michigan State AFL-CIO Public Employee Trust Dearborn Federation of Teachers/Dearborn Public Schools Dearborn Schools Employee Healthcare Program
- The Michigan State AFL-CIO Public Employee Trust is the vehicle for the Dearborn Schools Employee Healthcare Program.
- Dearborn Public Schools provides the collectively bargained funding for the program; the Trust is the fiduciary on behalf of the Dearborn Schools Employee Healthcare Plan.
- Employee groups, including local bargaining units, are not recognized as insurable entities. The Trust, therefore, is the policy holder, but recognizes the members of the Dearborn Schools Employee Healthcare Program as decision makers for their own benefit choices.
- The Dearborn Schools Employee Healthcare Program can choose any vendor and is not limited to Trust products
- The Trust’s unique offering allows the district to focus on education, and takes it out of the benefits business. The Trust, in partnership with the Dearborn Schools Employee Healthcare Program, is taking full responsibility for providing quality benefits to the membership.
- This unprecedented plan is a collectively bargained, locally based alternative to the legislation that is being considered in Lansing, and renders any mandated premium share meaningless.
- The fixed contribution by the District to the Dearborn Schools Employee Healthcare Program leaves plan design to the local membership, and any cost savings needed are decided by the membership, including premium share, carriers, wellness, and any other cost-containment strategies.
