Starting June 20 and running through July 22, the Dearborn Public Schools will offer free lunches to any child 18 years of age and under or persons up to age 26 enrolled in an educational program for the mentally or physically disabled that is recognized by a state or local public educational agency.

The district will operate the free lunch program at two locations:

Oakman Elementary, 7545 Chase, Dearborn 48126

Both sites will be closed on July 4.

Knowing the needs of the community, the district's Food Services Department applied and was approved to become a summer feeding site. The district provides free or reduced priced lunch to more than 11,000 students during the school year.

The U. S. Department of Agriculture's Summer Food Service Program for Children (SFSP) was established to ensure that low-income children continue to receive nutritious meals when school is not in session. Free meals, that meet Federal nutrition guidelines, are provided to all children at approved SFSP sites in areas with significant concentrations of low-income children.

The meals will be provided without regard to race, color, national origin, age, sex or disability. To file a complaint of discrimination, write to USDA, Director, Office of Civil Rights, 1400 Independence Avenue, SW, Washington DC 20250-9410, or call (800) 795-3272 or (202) 720-6382 (TTY).
