The law requires the Dearborn Public Schools to provide parents or guardians a set of legal announcements containing information on laws pertaining to students and parents. The updated version of these announcements is now available on the district website, www.dearbornschools.org. They will also be sent home with each elementary student and copies will be available at all middle and high schools. A translated version of these notices is also available on the website and available at each school. All parents and guardians are encouraged to take a moment and review the document. If you have any questions or comments, please call the Communications Office at 827-3006.

Dearborn Public Schools Superintendent Mr. Brian Whiston shared his thoughts and provided additional information about the new cut scores handed down from the Michigan Department of Education (MDE). The new “cut” scores will be applied this school year (2011-2012) to the MEAP exam given to 3rd through 9th graders in October 2011 and to the MME exam that 11th graders will take in March 2012. The MDE feels that this change will better reflect whether students are on-track to being career and college ready when they complete their high school education. The letter and “Frequently Asked Questions” can be found on the district’s website, dearbornschools.org, and on the district’s facebook page.

West Village Dental Care is helping children in need – one smile at a time. This spring and summer, as part of the Crown Council’s Smiles for Life campaign, Dr. Chris Mei offered teeth whitening services at a significantly reduced price, and donated 100% of the proceeds to help children facing serious health and educational problems. During the four-month campaign, Dr. Mei raised $1,489. Half of the funds raised were contributed to Dearborn Public Schools Education Foundation and Children’s Hospital of Michigan Neurosurgery Department for use right here in our community. The other half was contributed to Crown Council and Smiles for Life humanitarian initiatives.
The Dearborn Education Foundation is a charitable 501(c) organization and was created in 1992 by a group of private citizens to serve Dearborn Public Schools. All donations made are 100% tax deductible. The Foundation has raised and returned over $1,300,000 to the schools through teacher grant requests.
